Highlights: Catastrophic boat damage, regatta cut short. Despite warning sailors at the competitors briefing about maintaining a lookout and avoiding collisions, two port-starboard t-bones and various other minor collisions resulted in extremely large holes requiring very expensive and time consuming repairs. In both cases where there was serious damage both port boats were DSQ'd for breaking rule 10 (port/starboard) and both starboard boats were DSQ'd for breaking rule 14 (Avoiding Collisions). The two-turns penalty is not available for boats that cause serious damage.
Conditions were near perfect with NNW winds of 10-20 knots, straight down the lake in the predominant right shifts and somewhat more variable winds off the hill in the left shifts. All races were run on the "Zig-Zag" course with six legs; windward, three tight reaches, windward, leeward. The Larks were planing on the reaches in the puffs. Four boats capsized just before the finish of the last race.
Many thanks to Tufts freshmen Caleb Zimmerman and Meaghan Pesch for operating the rescue boat.
