At St. John's Prep Joe's team was the Division I North Champions his junior year. He won the Yawkey League All-Star award in '04 as well as recieved the Matheson Award for leadership. Some of his most memorable collegiate baseball moments are: his first collegiate baseball hit was against Benedictine College, starting in right field in a game vs. Curry in the '05 season, and his first college start as a catcher was vs. Wheaton.
